A Chinese Odyssey Part 2 - Cinderella 1995

In the previous chapter, Joker had repeatedly used the Pandora's Box to travel back in time a short distance in order to save his love,
the beautiful devil Pak Jing-jing (Karen Mok). He finally succeeded, but was shortly thereafter thrust back in time 500 years.
Now he meets up with an immortal transformed from a candlewick into a beautiful woman named Lin Zixia (Athena Chu). She claims the
Pandora's Box and quickly falls in love with Joker, but he's put off by her dual personality. Lin's gruff sister Qingxia also inhabits the same
body and awakes at night. Lin wanders off at one point and Joker stumbles upon himself, or rather his previous self as the Monkey King.
The scene that opened the first half of this story plays out fully as Joker watches the Monkey King defy the Goddess, resulting in his demise.
But Joker's bumbling attempt to steal the Pandora's Box that Monkey drops changes history when it causes the Longevity Monk to vanish
out of time before he can sacrifice himself.

A Chinese Odyssey Part 1 - Pandora's Box 1995

The Story begins in the realm of the gods as Monkey is confronted by Goddess for wanting to eat his master, The Longevity Monk, in
order to gain immortality. They were both supposed to journey to India to retrieve Buddhist scriptures, but never quite made it. Monkey
is effectively destroyed, but the kind monk intercedes upon his behalf by sacrificing himself and both of them are allowed to be reborn on
earth. 500 years later, the gods have arranged for the monk and Monkey to meet on Earth to resume their journey. Two demon sisters
who hope to eat the monk's flesh arrive at the intended spot which is a bandit hideout. The bandit leader is a cross-eyed and uni-browed
goon named Joker (Stephen Chow) who shortly has his bad looks 'cured,' but gets into all sorts of trouble with the devil women when it is
thought that he may be the reincarnated Monkey King who knows the whereabouts of the monk.

Royal Tramp II 1992

After foiling the plans of the various groups who were determined to have a hand in regal affairs, Wei now finds himself the target of
significant opposition. One such enemy (Cheung Man) who had been foiled in her plan to impersonate the Queen Mother now swears
revenge and also promises she will not be recognised when she returns. So it is as the delectable warrior now accepts a renewed form
(Lin) and is entrusted with the task of making sure a friend of her clan attains the throne. Meanwhile, now presiding over his own district,
Wei aka 'Duke of Mount Deer' sees the disturbances of the past return when he again becomes embroiled in the actions of the rebel
factions. Added to this is the attention of old allies and new threats to the throne. The cowardly duke manages to talk his way out of
trouble, while playing each side off against the other. The most surprising twist comes with some of the new allies and even lovers that
Wei amasses along the way. By the end of the film, the royal family is saved and Wei Shew Bao has several beautiful wives to his name.

The Blazing Temple 1976

'The Blazing Temple' opens with the emperor being informed of supposed events within Shaolin. According to his source, the religious order
is training anti-Manchu forces to overthrow the unpopular monarchy. With this in mind he plots a vicious attack on the temple and the
elimination of all of the monks therein. Within Shaolin the assembled order are unaware of what awaits them and concentrate on their
training to pass the test of the Bronzemen. In fearsome manner the Manchu forces attack the temple and bombard it with constant cannon
fire. Most of the monks are killed in the relentless attack, but a band of them manage to escape via a forgotten tunnel out of the grounds.
Now the survivors must plan their revenge and their proposed assassination of the ruthless emperor. However this is brought into question
when they find themselves hunted by their enemies and must also face the prospect of having a traitor in their ranks.

Chow plays a meek sandwich delivery boy whose good-hearted nature is sadly unappreciated by those around him. On his regular round,
Chow delivers near a Judo school and has his eyes firmly fixed on a beautiful student there (Chung). However, the bullying teacher notices
his interest and, as an admirer of her himself, humiliates his timid rival. Realising he is no match for the teacher, Chow searches for a kung-fu
master to teach him the vital skills he needs. Unfortunately for him, he becomes the target of a fake kung-fu master (Ng Man Tat) who
convinces Chow that he was actually Bruce Lee's teacher. This charlatan master teaches his new student a number of weird and wonderful
kung-fu techniques while also relieving him of most of his money. However strange his new knowledge is though, Chow finds these bogus
techniques of great benefit in winning the hand of his beloved and defeats his cackling nemesis. Although victorious, he now finds that he has
to face another far more devastating challenger (Lam) to achieve his goal.

but is now homeless and wanders the streets in search of a new home. When Yen 'helps' a puppeteer (Yuen Cheung Yan), but ruins his
puppet booth, Yen is marched back to the old man's home and told to work to pay-off the cost of the damage. After time, Yen befriends
the puppeteer and his rotund wife and informing them of his traumatic past. When the killer severely beats Yen, his new family encourage

exposition, his slight ineptitude is well-detailed. Working for this tyrannical boss is the nervy, neck-braced assistant Pighead (Ricky Hui)
and a young female secretary who keeps out of her employer's way. After being sacked from his job at a bottle factory, Lee (Samuel Hui)
decides to see if the Mannix Detective Agency can also offer him some kind of employment and if he can use his hero-like skills to their
fullest. Wong, however, is not entirely impressed by this eager young upstart and decides to exert his usual amount of arrogant authority
on this new employee. What follows is a series of sketch-like encounters in which Wong and Lee have to use their wiles to catch cheating
husbands and crafty shoplifters. This culminates in a chance for the Mannix Detective Agency's two top workers to prove their worth as
they face a gang of organised criminals who are holding a cinema to ransom.

Lawyer Lawyer 1997

In a return to the talky antics of Justice, My Foot! and Hail the Judge, Stephen Chow plays Chan Mong-Gut, a famous Chinese lawyer and
merciless trickster back in 1899. When Chan Mong-Gut not busy doing lawyer-type things, he spends his time annoying the locals, fooling
his daffy student Foon (Eric Kot), and embarrassing pretty women like Lotus (Chingmy Yau).
However, Chan and Foon have a falling out when Foon takes off to the newly-ceded Hong Kong to impress Lotus. Unfortunately, he ends
up getting framed for murder by Bowie Lam and Moses Chan Ho, who are out to snag an inheritance from their father (Chung King-Fai).
Chan decides to leave China and defend Foon - in a British court. Aiding him is Karen Mok in a ââ,¬Å"flower-vaseââ,¬Â role as Chanââ,¬â,,¢s estranged wife,
who was supposed to have studied law overseas, but actually studied fashion design. This puts Chan in a tough spot, especially when
Foon appears doomed by the byzantine rules of British law.

The Magnificent Butcher 1979

When a kung master's goddaughter is murdered by his own lustful son, Wong Fei-hung's mischievous student Butcher Wing is blamed.
Wing's brother is killed in an attempt to cover up the truth. Now he must fight to clear his name and get revenge.
The film begins modestly enough with Sammo comfortably playing an uncouth lout named Lam Sai-wing or simply 'Butcher Wing,' who
happens to be a student of the legendary Hung Gar master and hero, Wong Fei-hung. Butcher Wing doesn't waste time putting his kung fu
to use beating up a man he mistakenly takes for a thief. This misunderstanding leads kung fu master Kao (Lee Hoi-sang) to challenges
Fei-hung. Just as things are settling down, Kao's wicked son Tai-hoi (Fung Hak-on) kidnaps a woman who turns out to be the wife of Wing's
long-lost brother. More misunderstandings ensue as Tai-hoi pits the two brothers against each other. The woman is eventually brought
home by Wing, but he also nabs Kao's goddaughter, Lam Hsing (JoJo Chan). This leads to tragedy when Tai-hoi turns his deviant thoughts
to her and she winds up dead while still at Wing's home.
Now, Wing is in a real pickle. Fei-hung is out of town and Kao and his oddball cronies come looking for revenge. Wing is only saved by his
two martial brothers and a drunken beggar (Fan Mei-sheng). Following some kung fu training with the beggar, Wing discovers that his brother
has been killed by Tai-hoi. Before Fei-hung returns, Wing seeks his revenge and is forced to face Kao and his powerful 'Cosmic Palm' technique.

The Butterfly Murders 1979

A printer is found dead after being visited by a man who claimed to have discovered eight pages of unpublished documents detailing the
chilling fate of Shum Castle. The author is supposedly Fong, a noted scholar who had witnessed a strange occurrence where hundreds of
deadly butterflies terrorized the inhabitants. The documents turn out to be fake, but the events are real and Fong himself acts as witness
and narrator for the viewer. Word spreads that Shum, the castle's ruler is still alive and several well known fighters come to his aid. Tien
Fung leads members from the Tien Clan. He is joined by a woman known only as the Green Shadow who performs a lot of high-wire antics.
They arrive at the castle to find it nearly deserted except for Scholar Fong, Shum, his wife, and a mute servant who are hiding below in a
labyrinth of tunnels. Tension mounts as several attacks by the butterflies take place, leaving their victims dead by poison injected by
hundreds of "bites." It eventually becomes clear that a mysterious assassin in Black armor is controlling the butterflies. He is revealed as
one of three vicious killers known as the Thunders, all enemies of Tien Clan. The other two Thunders are Li Kim, AKA "1000 Hands," a
master of small hand weapons and Kwok, AKA "Magic Fire," a master of flame and explosives. They arrive at Shum Castle and everyone
battles it out in a bloody three-way match to decide the fate of Shum Castle and the martial world.

Notes: The back side of the cover lists this as one of several New Wave classics "remastered with the latest HD Digital technology,"
yet this cannot be true. This is a disappointing release from Mei Ah as they did little or nothing to restore it. The picture is dominated by
a green tint and heavy green stains that come and go. Resolution is moderately low and scratches can also be seen frequently. There is
a slight image flutter at times and contrast is somewhat low. There are some odd edits in the film that appear to be film related and not disc related.

An incredibly nationalistic film, Blade of Fury combines furious and bloody kung fu action with politics and history. The movie begins with an
attack by the patriotic Black Flag Troop on a group of Japanese soldiers. Although the group is defeated, their leader escapes and apparently
commits suicide. A few years later a nobleman, Tan Szu-tung (Ti Lung), is traveling to see the emperor to discuss the political changes in China.
Along with his assistant Nine Catties (Cynthia Khan) and the local blacksmith, they thwart an attempt on a government official's life. Afterwards, Szu-tung finds out that the blacksmith is in fact Wang Wu, the leader of the Black Flag Troop, and asks him to come along with him to see the
emperor as well as set up a kung fu school in the city. Politics begin to weave their way into the story at this point, as Szu-tung decides that the Empress Dowager must be killed in order for China to reach a greater status. Meanwhile, Yuan Shih-kai, the government official that was originally saved has joined forces with King Yee, a local nobleman, in an attempt to open up China to the Japanese in order to help the trade economy.
Things start to go downhill when Szu-tung is betrayed by Shih-kai and Wang Wu defies the government by refusing to combine his kung fu
school with that of the Japanese. Seeing that he has no choice but to sacrifice his life for the country he loves, Wang Wu (along with Nine
Catties and a few loyal students) attack King Yee's forces and avenge Szu-tung's betrayal.

Dragon Gate Inn 1966

Heinous eunuch Zhao is the Machiavellian power behind the Chinese throne, ruling the land through fear and intimidation. The one
threat to his position, royal executioner Yu, is executed after being convicted on trumped up charges and his family are exiled to the
farthest reaches of China. Paranoid Zhao still fears the influence that Yu's family could have with the rebel cell within the government
and decides to slaughter them before they reach their destination. A small troop of soldiers is sent to the isolated 'Dragon Inn' - located
in the most inhabitable reaches of the wilderness - to intercept the remaining Yus and they take over the location in preparation. Despite
attempts to secure the inn and stop any casual visitors entering, no-one is able to prevent phlegmatic swordsman Xiao from waiting for
his friend, the inn keeper Wu, from making the place his temporary abode. The loyalist warriors try to flex their muscles in front of Xiao
to scare him off, but when this fails they dedicate their efforts to finding out what his real motives are. Tensions are heightened when
a brother and sister also lodge at the inn and seek to ask awkward questions about the delicate situation around them. As events move
to a frenzied conclusion, Zhao elects to journey to the distant outpost in an attempt to cement his evil plan.
