'Caramel' Warms the Heart
         

"Caramel" is set in a Beirut beauty salon where the shop's stylists and mostly female clientele process all of life's most important passages -- weddings, funerals, menopause, even something as fleeting as a date for coffee -- through their hair. The film's title refers to the caramel they make over an open flame, then use to depilate their legs.
