Economy puts damper on New Year's Eve celebrations

Hundreds of thousands of people were still expected to pack a frigid Times Square, and many other New Year's Eve traditions around the country were in place, but some festivities fell victim to hard times and those that remained felt somewhat subdued.</p><br clear="all"/>
