I was pretty certain that Gov. Sarah Palin had clinched for the Dumbest Comment in Public Award for 2008 – no specific comment, mind; just about any one of her campaign rants was good for the prize.

But at the last possible moment the palm was wrested from her grasp by a – you should pardon the expression – dark horse candidate.

No one saw Roland Burris coming, but boy! did he say a dumb thing!
