            The â??Ekakwikwi Jinen Emmaanâ? video project was conceptualized at a June
2003 National Planning Conference Addressing Violence Against Women in the Republic of the Marshall Islands. The project WAVE (Women Against Violence through Education) was initiated under the guidance of an advisory group headed by the RMI Ministry of Health, local Non-Government Organization WUTMI (Women United Together in the Marshall Islands) and made possible through funding from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). This cooperative effort inspired WUTMI to seek funding from the U.S. Department of State to contract local Community-Based Organization Mission Pacific to produce this video, presenting WAVE information in a culturally and linguistically appropriate format. Ministry of Health funded its duplication. Consequently, WUTMIâ??s presentation of â??Ekakwikwi Jinen Emmaanâ? is the culmination of a partnership by both government and community-based organization working together to address a serious social concern, and is the first step in our campaign addressing Violence Against Women in the Marshall Islands. This program contained within the video was conceived, written, filmed and reproduced solely within The Republic of the Marshall Islands.
