band member Danny Federici, who died of melanoma. Raising awareness of
the diseases, one of the deadliest of cancers, is an important step
toward slowing the rapid increase in cases that have occurred in recent
decades, experts agree. More than 62,000 Americans are diagnosed with
melanoma each year and more than 8,000 die.
