Intel to Introduce Core 2 Duo Chips for Desktops on July, 27.

Intel Corp. has reportedly postponed the release of its code-named
Conroe desktop central processing units to July, 27, 2006. The reasons for the move are unclear, but it is likely that the chipmaker wanted to supply as many chips to the market as possible and also prepare appropriate platforms for the new family of central processing units (CPUs).

Originally the Intel Core 2 and Intel Core 2 Extreme microprocessors were scheduled to debut on the 23rd of July, but, according to the most recent changes in Intelââ,¬â,,¢s roadmap, the new breed of desktop CPUs will be officially launched on the 27th of July. In addition, the company will unveil its new chipsets ââ,¬â€œ Intel G965 and Intel Q963 ââ,¬â€œ on the same day, a news-story at DigiTimes web-site claims.

The reasons behind the move are uncertain, but given that the dates are very close, the motives do not seem to be related to technology, but rather to logistics and Intelââ,¬â,,¢s desire to deliver the right amount of chips to the market.

Intel Core 2 processors previously code-named Conroe are powered by the new micro-architecture, which sports shorter pipeline and high performance per clock ratio. The new processors feature 14-stages pipeline (compared to 31 or more stages found in previous Intel Xeon), 4-issue out-of-order execution engine (Intel Wide Dynamic Execution), improved performance of the floating-point unit (FPU) as well as unified level two cache that allows one of two processing cores to use the entire on-die memory reservoir if necessary while the other is idle.

The main advantage of the Conroe processors is increased performance amid moderate power consumption, which means that the chips will run cooler and will allow to build smaller computers with less noisy fans. i think duo core is really smart. its clock speed is really fast. i can imagine that computer having duo core processor eill not hang.
