A recent research topic has me diving deeper into this discussion with many people.
ASL has its own rules setup, as well as SEEII having the rules of English built into it. PSE flows somewhere in between the two. My question is, at what point does signing ASL become signing PSE?
To clarify further - The rules of ASL can be bent, language can be played with and changed and used by people in many ways. Not including the natural changes occurring in language, ASL is often bent towards an English word order and structure. At the same time, English words are often signed and spelled when signing ASL.
How much can ASL borrow from English before a signer is using PSE?
Rules can only be bent so far.
