The secret is to show the seperation a while after the move. Do the move when the bands are strethed out - while you're showing them that they're behind each other. That way the heat is on where the two bands join.

Don't know if that makes any sense - it's hard without giving too much away. I'd suggest getting hold of Michael Ammars version - either as a stand alone product or in one of his books or manuscripts (The magic of Michael Ammar is an excellent buy). Even if you know 'the move' it's worthwhile to see how he describes it.

You could also focus on the optical illusion aspect of it - when the bands are back together after being stretched, comment on how difficult it is to tell whether they're behind or in front.

A feind of mine breaths in and then exhales as the bands are seen to melt through each other. This has quite an eerie effect - difficult to describe it here.
