One would think that choosing the best deal for home phone service in the United Kingdom would be extremely easy. What could there be to it? One begins by looking at prices charged by the leading UK home phone providers for line rental and then compares prices for calling plans. For example if Primus has the lowest cost for a land line connection at just 9 pounds per month and their unlimited days, nights and weekend calling plan costs just 2.89 pounds additional then this must be the best deal…correct? Not at all,You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login, to begin with,You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login, the low price for a landline connection does not apply when signing up for the unlimited plan. So you will pay 10.99 in order to be able to pay the 2.89.  Alright then, you might think, we finally have it sorted. Not hardly,You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login, your calling plan does not include calls to mobiles. These run around 15p a piece. So if Mum or the kids needs to be contacted while they are out it will cost quite a bit to find them and chat to them.
Bear in mind the purpose of this article is by no means to put the knock on Primus. Far from it, their prices and services are among the best in the UK. But choosing the best deal for home phone goes much further than finding a good phone line rental rate and a calling plan to match it. Telecoms must be matched to your service needs. Very often these requirements include much more than inclusive plan calls. For some the need for a land based home phone line during daytime hours is minimal. If one is at work one hardly needs the phone at home. For others the home phone is a regular HQ with calls going out to family members and their mobiles constantly. Virgin Media allows free calling from Virgin land based phones to any Virgin Mobile phone. Because 90% of the calls we make are placed to friends and immediate family we would do well to keep our call within such a closed network.
And still it is not enough of a bargain to sign a long term home phone contract that gives us unlimited calls day or night to both land lines and mobiles. We can still do better by combining our home phone service with our favorite telecom product. Every UK telecoms provider has a specialty. For Sky it is TV. For Virgin Media it is high speed broadband. The key to getting a great deal on home phone service is to understand telecoms bundles. Very often when purchasing a package for three or more home telecommunications services you can structure your deal so that you receive one of these absolutely free. Now make sure at least one other service is tossed in at no cost. Don’t think this is possible? Check out Virgin Media’s price for a home phone and broadband package. The Broadband is free!
