The parents of missing Madeleine McCann “are taking stock” and preparing for their legal case after a week of intense speculation about the little girl,You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login, a family spokeswoman said today.

Today they were hoping for a “period of calm” and a chance to return to a routine with their two-year-old twins, Sean and Amelie.
Speaking at a media conference in their home village of Rothley, in Leicestershire, this morning, the spokeswoman said: “They had a series of meetings with media and legal advisors.
“What they are really trying to do is to take stock of their situation and prepare for next week.
“There’s an awful lot of work to be done in pulling together information on what’s out there.”

She added: “They want a period of calm and time with the twins at home.”
Representatives from Leicestershire social services met the McCanns earlier this week as part of standard procedure to discuss the welfare of their two younger children.
If an individual is named as a suspect overseas and this is reported to police, their local social services department has a duty to consider whether action needs to be taken to ensure the children’s welfare.
In such cases, children can be taken into care or placed on the “in need” or “at risk” register.
The meeting at the McCanns’ home on Thursday “went well” and there is “no decision outstanding”, said the family spokeswoman.
Asked about the various media reports about their case, she added: “They are disturbed by the level of speculation. They are not avoiding newspapers.
“They seem to be bearing up. The pressure on the family is so intense. I think they are all feeling it now.”
Journalists have gathered in Rothley since the McCanns returned home on Sunday.
The spokeswoman said: “We are making an appeal for media calm. The next few weeks will be quieter. They need time to prepare their case.”
