Sports betting can be quite complicated with odds and statistics. Many bets can be rather complex. Money line betting can often be confusing but once understood are one of the more user friendly types of sports bets out there today.
Money line bets are not used for every sport. Certain types of bets lend themselves to betting on some sports but not on others. Specifically sports that do not use point spreads instead will use a money line. These sports might include motorsport and others. In the sport of football,You are not allowed to view links. Therefore this makes it difficult for odds makers to establish point spreads in football so money line bets are used instead.
When money lines are established, it only matters which team wins and does not take into account the actual score. This component helps to make money lines bets less involved than other kinds. When reporting a money line, the expected team to win is given a designated negative number. The negative sign would indicate this is the favourite to win the sporting event. Then of course the team that is expected to lose, the underdog, is assigned a number preceded by a positive sign.  To illustrate a money line lets use an example from major league baseball. If the money line is reported the New York Yankees -150 and the Baltimore Orioles +110,You are not allowed to view links. However, if you would place a wager on the underdog, you would have to bet $100 in order to win $110 (the number indicated in the money line). The difference in the money line values shows the difference between the teams.
Money line bets essentially make it more appealing for some to place wagers on the underdog. If this was not equalized, most people would merely wager on the expected winner.
