Iconic or Ironic?  Designing the Wedding Dress

Ms. Middleton's publicity team has been appropriately cagey, offering enough information to fuel speculation but not enough to spoil the surprise. So the chatter has turned to the iconic dress worn by William's mother Diana in 1981.  Although at the time Diana's gown appeared timeless, the Emanuels' design drew upon relatively new traditions. And throughout history, the wedding gown has elaborated upon concurrent fashion trends. But can anything be done to breathe life into old conventions?
