Register or Login<p>We fondly remember the ‘push to overtake’ high boost feature of CART and IRL racers of old and now we can experience that same surge of boost, and adrenalin, in the new Ford Focus ST. The overboost function in the Focus ST’s 2.0-liter EcoBoost four cylinder increases pressure for up to 15 seconds and it is available in the middle of its powerband between 3,000 and 4,500 rpm. Consequentially, the overboost function does not increase the engine’s 252-horse peak but does bump peak torque by 7.4 percent. “The turbo itself is specified for sustained, high-output performance, but they’ve programmed the car’s computer to dial in more boost past 3,000 rpm to give it that extra something,” said Lisa Schoder, engineer and marketing manager for Focus ST. The Focus ST starts at $24,495 including destination and should give boost fiends more to think about when it hits the market.</p> a
