The First Placental Mammal

<img alt="" src="http://media-1.web.britannica.com/eb-media//69/93369-050-9E02CEE6.jpg" width="270" height="202" align="right" />Humans are one of almost 4,000 known species of placental mammals, all of which, according to  a recent study published in the journal <em>Science</em>, may have originated from a tiny, rodent-like critter that weighed perhaps no more than several ounces, had a furry tail, and climbed trees.
