FDA to Regulate Smartphone Medical Apps, but Patients Should Proceed With Caution

COMMENTARY | These days, there's a smartphone app for just about everything. Health and wellness apps are especially popular as people use their phones for such tasks as counting calories and developing exercise routines. Yesterday the FDA announced it would start regulating medical apps, ones that actually perform medical functions like blood pressure checks. As a nurse, I agree with the FDA decision to regulate these smartphone medical apps, but advise people to use them with caution.
