Scientists Propose Using Fatty Acid to Treat Crohn's Disease

Researchers studying the immune system of mice have discovered a mechanism to put a damper on the inflammation associated with Crohn's disease. They believe their results suggest a new way to treat Crohn's and other illnesses. They discovered a mechanism through which bacteria in the gut exert an influence on the immune system and its role in cutting inflammation. This mechanism operates by way of butyrate, a fatty acid that's a byproduct of the digestion of dietary fiber by the bacteria, according to Medical News Today.
