Nisei Showoff - To Hell-A And Back

Nisei Showoff - To Hell-A And Back
Nisei Showoff - To Hell-A And Back - Super Street Magazine
We almost got away with having a mild summer as far as temperature goes (at least in LA), but out of nowhere, the driest and hottest heat to hit came on the one day we could've done without it at the annual Nisei Showoff. For the JDM purists-and we're speaking on behalf of those who are reppin' Hondas, Nissans, Subes, the whole nine yards-this is where dust covers are pulled off and engines are turned over from months of rest so that they can be polished off to a brilliant shine. It's a long-standing tradition where the best of the best come to parlay and is consequently one of the hardest shows to win, considering the company you're with. In the immortal words of every guy who's wanted to ball me up, it's the proverbial, "You better bring your A-game, 'cause it's gonna be raining threes!" scene.

While a majority of the Hondas were something you'd regularly see on Honda-Tech or from the Eibach meet a few months earlier, there were a couple of new gems, like the Web Camshafts-sponsored EG with one of the cleanest B-series swaps we've seen in a minute or the PasswordJDM Civic sedan that has a complete JDM front end conversion, Mugen body kit and Spoon brakes. Performance Nissan paraded a couple of Nismo tuned Zs and had one of the Pacific Rim drift S13s on hand, which broke plenty of necks throughout the day. The VIP and B-spec movements brought plenty of heat as there were a few decked out Lexus sedans airbagged on dubs and first gen xBs that ran ridiculously low offset wheels. Old schoolers didn't roll super deep this time around, but the usual suspects, like Ernie Uy and his Super Fin-rollin' Integra, Marcus DiSabella's classic CRX with rare HKS turbo goods and recent "Back In the Day" (April '07) feature, Ted Lo's tangy Bluebird, are always a welcome sight at Showoffs like this.

Despite the wicked heat, Nisei Showoff drew a sizeable crowd in addition to the show competitors who come out regularly to support this must-attend event. We always know it's going to be hot, but damn, why'd it have to be that hot? Minor!
