Join Seal Watch Walks from Montauk Hotels
Seals are a main attraction at the Montauk Point State Park in Montauk,You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login, New York.  Up to four species of overwintering seals can be seen sunning themselves on the rocky beach near Montauk Point.  Take a 3-hour stroll along the sand from Montauk hotels to watch these friendly pinnipeds.  Instead of exploring alone, join a guided tour so you do not disturb the haul-out zone.  Visitors who want to watch the seals should stay at least 70 yards (64 meters) away from the resting marine mammals.  During the tour you will also be able to observe different bird species and other marine geology creatures.  Naturalists from the Coastal Research and Education Society of Long Island, as well as those from the State Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation, will lead seal walks on Fridays and weekends throughout the winter.  It is recommended to wear warm clothes and comfortable shoes for walking on sand and rocks, and to bring binoculars so you can see the seals up close.
See the Second House Museum from Montauk Hotels
The tiny town of Montauk in East Hampton used to be known as the cattle range and Wild West of Long Island, New York long before it turned into the  tourist destination that's popular today.  The vestiges of its long ranching history can still be found in Second House the second house ever built in Montauk and the oldest building still standing on Montauk today.  Second House was opened to the public as a museum in June 28, 1969, displaying early photos and artifacts amidst gorgeous lawns and beautiful rose and hydrangea gardens.  Second House was built as a farmhouse for East Hampton shepherds, just like many houses in Montauk during that era.  In the 18th century, the northern part of the kitchen was also used as a school.  Tourists who want to travel back in time can visit Second House from nearby Montauk hotels, including the Second House Tavern, Avalon Lake Front Motel, and Sole East Resort.  The public may view the Second House Museum any day but Wednesday.
