Two Congress candidates for the coming assembly poll escaped unhurt as militants on Sunday night attacked their residences in Manipur.
M Okendro, contesting from Heirok constituency, was holding a meeting of party workers at his residence in Thoubal district at around 2000 hours (IST) when armed militants opened indiscriminate fire killing a Manipur Rifles jawan and a party worker, official sources said in Imphal on Monday.
While Okendro escaped unhurt, four of his party workers sustained serious injuries, they added.
The incident occurred about 10 minutes after Okendro addressed a public meeting at Heirok,You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login, 25 km from Imphal, along with Congress Working Committee member Mani Shankar Aiyar, the sources said.
Security personnel were combing the nearby hilly areas on Monday morning but no arrest has been made so far,You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login, they added.

In another incident, unknown militants opened fire at the Imphal residence of Congress candidate E Kunjeswar late on Sunday night but there was no casualty, sources said.
Kunjeswar is contesting the poll from Yaiskul constituency.
A few days ago, unidentified militants had attacked the house of Suresh Singh,You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login, a Congress candidate in Wangjing Tengtha constituency, in Thoubal district, resulting in bullet wounds to a party worker.
Sources said security and police posts in Manipur valley have been put on maximum alert in view of the intensified underground activities.
