The Washington D.C. Mall is one long span of historical sites and museums, one after the other.  A walk down this area can provide you with days of entertainment.
There is a fabulous view of the capitol building, as well as the Washington Monument.  You can also see the World War II Memorial and Lincoln Memorial from the Mall.
When you are here, you should set aside at least one day, ideally more, to dedicate to the amazing museums that dot the strip.  Most of the sites here are owned and operated by the Smithsonian Institute.
The main museum is the Smithsonian Castle, which is one of the most picturesque buildings along the Mall.  The rose gardens and fountains that decorate the already beautiful exterior are a relaxing place to stop, relax,You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login, and snack.
Probably the most popular of all the Smithsonian institutions, however, is the National Air and Space Museum.  It contains hundreds of original and historical artifacts from United States aviation, as well as the NASA program and shuttle missions.
Housed in the NASM are some of the most famous aircrafts ever flown or used.  One of those is the 1903 Wright Flyer, the first successful airplane ever launched.
It was created by the Wright Brothers, Wilbur and Orville, and flown at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, in the year 1903.  This was the beginning of all aviation in America, because it hovered in the air and was powered by a four-cylinder engine.
Visitors to the site can see this original work, as well as the Spirit of St. Louis.  This is the famous plane that Charles Lindbergh flew solo across the Atlantic.
This feat had never been done before, and was completed on May 21, 1927.  It flew from Long Island, New York, to Paris, France, in thirty-three hours and thirty minutes.
This had an immense effect on the aircraft industry; after he performed this task, aviation stocks rose in value and interest in flying reached new heights.  People finally saw the airplane as a safe and reliable mode of transportation.
This sparked the movement that has developed into the main mode of long-distance travel today.  The plane is displayed suspended from the ceiling of this institution, and is one of the most amazing spectacles in the main aircraft room.
There are dozens of exhibitions galleries within the NASM.  One of these includes a flight simulator, where you and your family can go on an aircraft "mission."
There are also a great deal of tours available led by docents, including personal, daily, and school tours.  The Albert Einstein Planetarium presents visitors with two shows on a daily basis: Cosmic Collisions offers a thrilling trip through space,You are not allowed to view links. This is a perfect destination for families,You are not allowed to view links. Human space exploration is shown through two exhibitions.  Space Race focuses on the competition between the United States and the Soviet Union to reach outer space.
Artifacts on display here include the V2 ballistic missile, a Hubble Space telescope test vehicle, and a Skylab space station that visitors and guests can walk through.
If you are more interesting in how Americans landed on the moon,You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login, then you will want to have a look at the Apollo to the Moon area.  The building offers a great deal of knowledge about space exploration and aviation.
It also teaches children about the different planets, focusing on earth, and about the moon.  The gift shop is one of the most entertaining in all of the Smithsonian institutions.
There, you can find freeze-dried snacks, or astronaut food, to test out.  There is also a great deal of toys, games, and decorations inspired by the exploration of the universe.
The National Air and Space Museum is a place where you can go to have fun and learn; it is perfect for a family vacation site and offers plenty of activity to keep you occupied all day.  If you choose to take a trip to Washington D.C., do not neglect seeking out this attraction.
