Turn Automatic updates on or off

When you first run Windows Me on your computer, you'll notice an icon in the tray of your Taskbar, which every so often produces a message about updating your computer automatically. To remove this icon from your Taskbar, click the icon, then follow along with the wizard, when asked accept the license agreement.

From now on, as long as you're online, Automatic Updates will look for new updates, download them, and let you know when they're ready to be installed. Once you've turned Automatic Updates on, you can change its behavior or turn it off entirely. Open the Control Panel, select Start, Settings, Control Panel then click Automatic Updates. Assuming you want to be notified before this utility downloads any new updates, select the second option. Or, to turn Automatic Updates off altogether, select the third option. Click OK to keep the change.
