June 2014 Hole Shot - The Gaijin Experiment

The entire staff spends three full days at Tokyo Auto Salon followed by a week of visiting tuners, shooting cars and partying with our friends in Tokyo and Osaka. But this year, we decided to go a different route and try what I like to call the, "<em>gaijin</em> experiment." Instead of sending a staff of seasoned editors who know the lay of the land, we rolled the dice with our young shooter, Matt along with online editor, Sean Russell to assist him. While Sean has visited Japan once in his days as the editor of <em>Super Streetbike</em> magazine, Matt has never been to Tokyo Auto Salon before, let alone traveled to Japan. Also, Matt would be in charge of covering the entire show, coordinating the photoshoots and putting the entire issue together. Was it a risk? Yes, but I knew he wouldn't let us down, especially since I've been hearing nothing but Matt talk about Japan every other day for the last six months. Sure enough, Matt returned with some amazing coverage of Japan's biggest tuning show and eight feature cars.
