Cerys Matthews cautious on love in the jungle

Nov 24 2007 icWales

Welsh singer Cerys Matthews is still preoccupied by the departure of ex-EastEnder Marc Bannerman in the I’m a Celebrity jungle.

She and fellow contestant Anna Ryder Richardson had a cryptic conversation about a couple who had fallen in love.

“He had a girlfriend so he had to sort of clear that up first... and then, bang,” Ryder Richardson said.

“And there’s the story. Happy ever after,” said Matthews.

But the recently divorced singer sounded a note of caution.

“I don’t want to make another mistake. I’ve got my beautiful kids, my whole life ahead of me,” she said.

Ryder Richardson told her: “Doesn’t happen very often, you meet people that you know quite quickly that you could have found a soulmate. You can’t deny your feelings. You can’t help falling in love with other people.”

Earlier, Matthews told the camp how she was nearly abducted from a park as an 11-year-old.

“This little dog came up to me and I bent down to pet it and then a man grabbed me from behind and I heard a scream â€" the worst scream I’ve ever head - and it was just echoing.

“I remember it echoing around the bowl in this silent, snowy park and I realised it was my scream and the guy was trying to get me into the woods.

“I got away because I think the scream scared him as much as it scared me. Then I ran away as fast as I could. We got the police and stuff, but it was just really scary because your heart’s out of your chest, you’re out of your own self, frozen with fear.

“I remember being mad at myself because I was doing judo at the time. But I was 11, this was an adult man. It was a good lesson to know that you can freeze.”
