            Pitchwood is great for starting a fire: just igniting some shavings will give you a flame that lasts for quite a while, and if you have larger pieces it will burn even longer.

When a pine tree dies a violent death (falls, struck by lightning, cut down), the roots continue to send a resin up into the stump from the root.  The outside of the stump will undoubtedly be rotten wood, but toward the center you'll find this harder, stickier stuff.  And it burns wonderfully.

My apologies for the quality being kind of poor; I'm just using a point-and-shoot digital camera, so neither the audio or video quality are particularly high.

(I redid this video so I could get outside of my garage and so I could try getting a better angle.  It turned out a little better, I think.  Too bad I haven't filmed any of the times I've gotten it to go in one strike, though.)
