            Soft My Soul Shivers

by Raquel la Poeta

Hyper-cerebral's the world where we live,
our brains demanded of learned thoughts expressed;
abstraction is prized, no sentiment give,
'lest our intelligent peers think us less.
I m caught between minds which think the world flat:
their religion will solve our woes extant;
science hard evidenced boldly claims that,
cited the proof , even myth must recant.

I've witnessed to some which their heart's been lost
that vital connection rendering dear
the essence of human; such a high cost
has sadly been proven , year after year.
Since Columbine's woe 'til that of today's
this country has seen its youth degraded;
children poisoned by chemical arrays,
pharmaceutically concantenated.

Our youth has been hurt, by those who care not
but to entangle young lives in barbed wire;
when the pain's too great, despair seems their lot,
many are lost to the conflagrant fire.
It's blind corp'rate greed which levies the toll
as fee for which innocent lives must pay;
I've seen not much here that's good to extol,
if 'twere that, I should be then locked away.

Spiritual creeds offer lessons and paths
that Time itself will soon not see gone;
young hearts and minds housed by wisdom's raths
may yet avert a gray tear-washed stone.
I've heard some opine they think it too weak,
when I tell meditation's an apt start,
Yet if asked by me of ought else they speak
they cannot answer, and so our ways part.

If thou shouldst keep a cynic's view of me,
alas; but Time's passage is long wrought;
I shall refrain from hardness toward thee,
and wait in love hoped for, but ne'er sought.
I'll not change my mind, no matter's the word;
As true as the ceaseless flow of rivers,
mine heart shall keep constant that song unheard;
as after angels, soft my soul shivers.
