            The glyph for Om might have been fashioned from the image of a mother with child.  In prehistoric times she was the great Mother Goddess of the world.  When agriculture societies arose, Om is the fertility goddess.  To the yogi she is Samadhi, and the realization of oneness, Atman, God consciousness, or Buddha consciousness.  In the Christian tradition, she may be the Blessed Mother given birth to the Christ Child.
