In terms of card magic you must (imo) own the Royal Road. Apart from being the foundation for everything else you might ever want to learn it has great tricks in it that get overlooked just because they're in a beginners book.

The only other book I have that I think everyone performing any close-up magic at all should have is the Tannen's Stars of Magic compendium.

Everything else is taste and what suits you, but those two books are so packed with quality that you'd be mad to ignore them.

I've got a lot of DVDs and I think a lot of them are superb, but I wouldn't class any of them as essential. The only seperately sold trick I would recommend to anyone doing magic with cards is Roy Walton's Card Warp.
