Yarrr! Pirate's duel
         

Wolfhair, aka Thomas Hopkins, (left) and Shortround, aka Eric Pool, (right) compete in a public duel during the Sea Dog Nights & Gypsy Carnival at Cheadle Lake on July 25. The fight, won by Shortround, was one of many duels that were orchestrated by fellow pirates. The gathering, held July 23-27 at Cheadle Lake Park, offered spectators and visitors a variety of activities and vendor shops. Highlights included evening fire dancers, treasure hunts and pirate ship raids. About 1,000 people participated in the gathering, most staying in tents on site.
