She was 85. For last several years, Chytilova was battling an unspecified illness. Chytilova’s highly acclaimed farcical comedy “Daisies” from 1966 represented a radical departure from the socialist realism, a typical communist-era filmmaking focusing on the working class. It was immediately banned before winning the Grand Prix at the Bergamo Film Festival in Italy in 1967.
