HAVING followed in the footsteps of Michael Caine in his remake of Alfie, Jude Law does it again with thriller, SLEUTH (15).

Law plays Milo Tindle, the role Caine inhabited in the 1972 screen version of Anthony Schaffer's play.

Caine now takes on the persona of scheming Andrew Wyke - played in the original film by Laurence Olivier.

Kenneth Branagh directs this dangerous battle of wits between an ageing detective novelist and the young actor who has been having an affair with his wife. Harold Pinter wrote the screenplay.

Law, one of six producers of the film, says he had suggested the idea to Michael Caine several years earlier.

Caine says: "I was fascinated by the whole idea from the start. But especially when I saw the Pinter script. Although the basic plot is the same and the title is the same, Pinter's writing is completely different from Anthony Schaffer's.

"It's not the same movie.
