Tein Coilovers - Mono Flex and Comfort Spec - Super Street Magazine<p>You don't have to tell us. We know that Tein comes up with new coilover models about as often as girls buy new shoes and purses. Is it entirely necessary? That depends on how hardcore of a suspension buff you are. We feel that, like porn, the more variationsavailable the better. With that being said, we were off on another lovely flight to Japan with Seor Felipe Chavez and the overseas Tein staff sans Mr. Fujimoto. The latest additions to Tein's already widespread coilover lineup are the Mono Flex and Comfort Spec. These are similar to the Flex and Type CS models, only revamped. The Mono Flex has a mono tube design, which allows for largervalving and a larger adjustment range when compared to the twin tube Flex, and is equipped with the new MSV, which allows users to notice a bigger difference within the softersettings. While the Comfort Spec uses a Teflon-coated steel body rather than the aluminum of the Type CS, and is also equipped with the MSV techonology.</p><p>On our usual trips with Tein, we get to thrash on cars like their 350Z, RX-8, Evolution 9, and IS 350 with a completely empty Ebisu track at our disposal. This time around, we headed to the twisty turny roads up at Mt. Fuji. Piloting right-hand drive cars on real roads is a lot less forgiving than a perfectly paved track. Not just putting our driving abilities to the test, but also abusing each and every internal piece of the coilover units. Which is exactly why we were driving them there. The point was made, taken, signed, sealed, and delivered that these new coilovers handled great and could withstand the punishment of poorly maintained surface roads. Fortunately, we managed to get by without inflicting any damage on Tein's fleet. We wish we could say the same for our sisterpublication SCC</p><p><table> <tr> <td>COILOVER </td> <td>CONCEPT </td> <td>PRICE</td> </tr> <tr> <td>FLEX</td> <td>Street 70 / Track 30</td> <td>Starts $1430</td> </tr> <tr> <td>MONO FLEX</td> <td>Street 55 / Track 45 - more aggressive thanFLEX, more similar to old RA, RE, RS </td> <td>Starts $1640</td> </tr> <tr> <td>CS</td> <td>Comfort 90 / Performance 10</td> <td>Starts $1500</td> </tr> <tr> <td>COMFORT SPORT</td> <td>Comfort 90 / Performance 10</td> <td>Starts at $1400* est. price</td> </tr> </table></p>
