Marshawn Lynch Figures to Get Plenty of Carries Right From Start in Seattle
Running back Marshawn Lynch, picked up by the Seattle Seahawks Tuesday from the Buffalo Bills to bolster a soft running game, figures to get a chance to jump right into the action once the Seahawks return to action following a bye week.
The 24-year-old Lynch, who was at California in the same backfield with Seattle's leading rusher, Justin Forsett, will be counted on by the Seahawks to give them a bigger back.
Lynch is 5-foot-11 and 215 pounds while Forsett is 5-8 and 198. Julius Jones, who hadn't played in the last two weeks as Forsett became the primary ball carrier You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login, was released to make room for Lynch.
"We've been interested in Marshawn for a long time,'' coach Pete Carroll said. "It finally came together (and) we're pleased to bring him. (Lynch) is a guy that I've known for a long time, going through recruiting in high school. You know we emphasized trying to get this running game in order and hopefully he'll help us in that regard.
"He's a very unique football player. He plays with great intensity, he's got make-you-miss ability and he's also physical and runs tough. He has really good hands; he can catch the football, as well. So he's got great versatility to him. He's got speed to break away and he's got an attitude about the way runs. He can run the ball in tough situations. He's a guy that can carry the load for you.''

The Bills obviously didn't think so. Lynch gained more than 1 You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login,000 yards in each of his first two seasons, but he rushed for just 450 yards in an injury-plagued 2009 and lost his job as a starter to Fred Jackson this year for the 0-4 Bills.
Lynch was one of the groomsmen in Forsett's wedding this offseason, and Forsett said he was delighted to be reunited with his friend.
"He's like a brother to me," Forsett said. "He'll bring a lot to this team."
Lynch's arrival may mean fewer carries for Forsett, but the running back didn't seem to have a problem with that.
"Coach definitely stresses competition," Forsett said. "Me and Marshawn have worked well together in the past, so I definitely have no issue with that."
Forsett said he didn't know the Seahawks were trying to acquire Lynch, but if they'd asked he would have given such talks an enthusiastic thumbs' up.
"I've known Marshawn for a while now, and I'd say he's a great player. I know that he was a little unhappy out there in Buffalo, so he's going to get a fresh start. This is a good spot for him."
Asked what exactly Lynch would provide, Forsett, who said he talks weekly with Lynch, summed it up in one word:
"Power," he said. "He's a strong guy You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login, probably one of the strongest guys I've ever been around, and you can tell by the way he breaks tackles (that) he runs with a lot of heart. You don't see that too often.''
Forsett said the big heart extends far beyond the football field.
"He has a big heart," Forsett said of Lynch. "He's one of those guys that goes out, and I can recall many times on campus somebody would say, 'Hey Marshawn, I love those shoes' or, 'Hey, I love that shirt' or something.
"He would take it right off his back and give it to them You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login, literally. Took his shoes off, (took) his shirt off, it didn't matter. He's a guy that literally takes his shirt off for you."
One thing the Seahawks liked about Lynch is the fact that he's signed through 2011, so there is some cost certainty involved in picking him up.
"The fact that Marshawn is 24 years old and he's just getting started in his career (was a factor in making the trade)," Carroll said. "He's got a couple years left on his contract and all that. We like the fact that he's a young, productive guy that can come to the program but we're counting on him coming to help us now.
"This is a move to help us immediately that we know has longevity because of his makeup and his age and all. We're pumped about the opportunity to get him in here You are not allowed to view links. The trade, first reported by FOX Sports, is reportedly costing the Seahawks a fourth-round pick in 2011 and a conditional pick -- likely a sixth-rounder -- in 2012.
