Weeping willows can flourish and thrive in most landscape settings and have a high tolerance for drier soil conditions. Proper fertilization during the planting can increase the health and life span of the tree.

Completely cover the root system with soil and fertilizer and avoid leaving any air pockets beneath the soil. Air pockets can dry out the roots and damage or impede the growth of the tree. Weeping willows absorb water, help reduce standing water in areas where the tree is planted and adapt well to flood prone areas.

Choose a site for planting your weeping willow tree. Dig a hole two times the depth and width of the root system. An appropriate location is any area that needs additional shade. Choose an area that has enough space to accommodate the growth of the weeping willow; it can grow up to 10 feet per year and reach approximately 50 feet high and 35 feet wide when fully grown.
Fertilize the soil of the weeping willow using fertilizer that contains nitrogen after placing the tree in the hole parallel to the ground. Fill the hole with planting soil or the original ground soil, mixed with fertilizer. Avoid applying fertilizer directly to the tree.
Fertilizer packaging is assigned a number system that signifies its chemical components of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. Choose a brand that has equal parts of each chemical component such as Miracle Grow 10-10-10 or 20-20-20, or a similar product,You are not allowed to view links. Wear protective gardening gloves to reduce the possibility of scratches or cuts from tree roots or branches.
