Honda Civic Type-T Project Development - Tetsu's Tales

I am not sure Honda of USA will sell next Civic Type-R in US market or not but Honda Japan says next Civic Type-R will come out in 2015 and will have 1600cc turbo motor with hatchback body, which is Civic Euro model. Now Honda is testing 1600cc turbo motor with Civic Euro model at FIA World Touring Car Race (WTCC) beginning this October. WTCC organize touring car race around the world, like USA, Europe, Asia and Japan. First race for Civic Turbo would be in Suzuka, Japan. (I am not sure the Civic's result of WTCC in Suzuka now because I am writing this before the race.) Many Japanese race fan notice WTCC in Suzuka because Civic Turbo race car is first Japanese race car for WTCC. FIA (Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile) organize WTCC, WRC (World Rally Championship) and Formula One. FIA is changing regulation from last year, which says the engine for WTCC, WRC and F1 is 1600cc turbo motor. Of course, the performance is different for each racing engine. 1600cc straight four cylinder turbo engine is for WTCC and WRC; 1600cc V6 turbo engine is for F1 (FIA's regulation would say straight four cylinder turbo engine for F1 too but now the regulation say V6 1600cc turbo motor). Many car companies develop 1600cc turbo motor for race and what's commercially available, like Honda Civic (WTCC), Toyota Yaris (WRC), Chevrolet Cruze (WTCC), Ford Focus (WTCC), Ford Fiesta RS (WRC), VW Polo (WRC), Volvo C30 (WTCC), BMW 320TC (WTCC) and Mini (WRC); Nissan develops 1600cc turbo motor and is testing now. 1600cc turbo motor is becoming popular in Euro car market. They choose small motor with turbo. Car companies don't need to make special engine for each race. Basic engine is 1600cc four cylinders motor with turbo and car companies customize basic engine for each race and to cut costs. The idea of using turbo motor for us is getting big power but fuel mileage is so bad but that is old story now. Fuel mileage for present 1600cc turbo engine of WTCC and WRC cars is good because they have direct fuel-injection system. They keep on developing 1600cc turbo motor (some car companies are selling 1600cc turbo motor now). Few years ago, for tuning market in Japan and USA, it was very popular for everyone to put big turbos on and make big power, but now turbo word is not popular. I notice turbo tuning would come back to tuning market. Will Honda and another companies sell 1600cc turbo car in USA car market?
a
Photo Gallery: Honda Civic Type T Project Development - Super Street Magazine

Honda Civic Type-T Project Development - Tetsu's Tales |
