IMAGERY

Free-to-air television sequences recorded on VHS tape - news, documentaries, B-movies - replayed on domestic TV with exaggerated color saturation - selected fragments filmed using Canon Super 8 camera - most images close-up to exaggerate image degradation, abstraction and selective details from original imagery.

Televisual "snow" patterns filmed in close-up - content-free channels - brownian noise of visual electro-static - swirling pixels - careful to get high-contrast, sharp focus patterns

Slow-motion, pause, roll-bar and other techniques of electronic image manipulation inherent in domestic av technologies used throughout to abstract, distantiate and reform.

AUDIO

Audio-cassette recordings made with Marantz stereo cassette recorder. Some use of 4-track 1/4" reel-to-reel tape.
Korg MS10 synthesiser, toy piano, casio calculator and other noise-making objects.

Various audio recordings - BBC shortwave radio news, television soundtracks, personal electronic soundworks, video arcades, artist studios in Brisbane, parties in Sydney, computer voice synthesis.

CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK

fragments of media recombined to create hermetic audio-visual conflation of irony, humor and bathos

take it, break it, remake it

jarring stylistic transitions, structuralist rhythms, forceful mismatching, wilful poetic disturbance

strategies of repetition, decontextualisation, metonymic inference, crypto-neologism eg "technolateral boundaryland of tv"

combining and colliding self-made electronic soundwork and field recordings of street, city and video arcade games with television - david-and-goliath style
