<p>Wow, I really did not expect all of this. What I originally thought was going to be another drab year of counting my days down to my big 3-0-only to celebrate my "it only goes downhill from there" (say my friends) moment at the Cheesecake Factory-actually turned out to be more than anything I could have imagined. This was my biggest year in terms of being challenged. I dealt with personal hardships, did a bit of soul-searching and traveled halfway across the world to clear my mind and bring my focus back. I needed this "epic" year to happen.</p><p>It all sort of happened around May, during a time when I just wanted to say "f' it all" and just go somewhere. That somewhere turned out to be a road trip to Vegas with some close friends of mine and man, did we do it up. Alas, you know what they always say about Vegas-you can never say what you did in Vegas because what happened in Vegas never really happened in the first place, right? Right. After that it, was back-to-back flights to hit up a couple Formula D events and the big Nisei Showoff, but then I booked this off-the-wall trip to Thailand to satisfy my curiosity.</p><p>What better way to really say goodbye to my 20s and enter the realm of "creepy old guy" than with a roundtrip pass to a land where $200 U.S. can produce a custom-tailored suit and for an extra $80, three dress shirts, also custom-made? Thailand, baby. Where the Honda Jazz (the Fit, as it's known around these parts) rules the land with a couple Nissan S13s sprinkled in for good measure-yep, still Thailand, baby. A supremely beautiful country with devastatingly spicy food (and women!) and a dissatisfying taste for all things simply unpronounceable; that was my Thailand experience. And when I got back, I was told I'd be given the opportunity to take control of the magazine that I have devoted the last nine years of my life to. I don't think it gets any better than that, and you can rest assured that the magazine now has my undivided attention. What can I say-my 30th year turned out to be the best year of my life!</p><p>So, as we close out another year of Super Street and prepare to embark on another, let me say that it has been a blast and a true honor to grow up with you in this very magazine. It's like being a child actor in some ways, minus the massive paychecks and residuals. May we always forge ahead with "epic" on our minds.
