Biometrics Security

In computers we use two types of software. They are Operating systems and Application software. Examples of operating system software are MS DOS, Windows and Linux. These software are also called System software.

Another type of software are application software. Examples of application software MS Office, PageMaker, Photoshop, Winzip etc.

Generally we have to buy these two types of software. Hence they can be grouped under 'Commercial ware'. These software are usually packed in a nice box and comes with user manual etc. Big software companies sell these software through their branches are through their agents. They are usually expensive.
Shareware

Shareware software are very unique software type. You also have to BUY these software but they are very cheap. You can pay the developer or the developer's company directly and get this shareware software.

Usually the shareware software allow the user to download a trial version to try the software for a short period and then decide to buy later. This trial download will usually have less features than the original version. If you like the trial version you can pay and get the full version.

In the trial software the printing maybe disabled. Or the file size may have a limit. Or they may enable all features but insert their company logo or advertisement in some places. Some shareware may provide the full features but will only function for a specified period of time. When you buy all these obstacles will be removed.

Freeware

Those software that are available totally free are called freeware. Many developers (usually individuals) spend their time and effort to create applications and allow other people to download and use it for free. Many quality freeware software are available in Internet. In fact most of the Internet users use this type of freeware a lot.

Open Source

Open source software also comes with the source code of the software together with the software. Other computer programmers can see how the application has been coded and they may change the code to alter the application features if they want.

Since this source code is shared openly it is called Open source. Some think that freeware and open source are same. But it is not true. Freeware do not come with the source code. Some freeware may be chargeable if they give the source code.

Adware

Advertisement + Software = Adware. So it is obvious that Adware will contain advertisements. When you use adware, advertisements will be shown frequently on your screen. All Adware software are free. The developers of Adware earn by showing these advertisements. That is why they give adware free of charge.

Spyware

Spyware monitors and spies on you. Which websites you visit, what you do and such details will be sent as reports back to the spyware developer.

You may wonder who installed these spyware in your computer. It is none other than you. Yes, when you download some free software from Internet these spyware may be hidden in them. When you install that free software this spyware also will be installed.

Spyware is very intelligent. When you uninstall the free software in which the spyware was hidden, only that free software will be uninstalled. The spyware will still be in your computer.

Therefore detect and remove spyware from your computer.

Malware

Malware is the short form of 'Malicious Software'. Malware will change the home page of your web browser. This is called home page hijacking. Malware can use your modem to dial international phone numbers. Malware can be used to take control of your computer by exploiting security holes in your operating system.

Malware can slow down your computer and reduce performance. It is usually difficult to remove malwares from your computer. You can try these few tips to uninstall programs that refuse to uninstall.
